People often get stopped by the smallest things, the smaller pressures, the smallest ant hills worth of pressure.

I remember in the past sometimes acting different because I worried a little about what other people might think of me.

But I realized something.
1) Everybody is self-absorbed in their life, they aren't worrying about your or that thing you did
2) If you worry about what every one else thinks, you are always going to get stopped short, a few moments shy of something that might make you happy.

So I changed my mindset.

Point in case.
On Tuesday, my company put on this gala dinner for clients, prospective clients, and friends, in conjunction with a charity organization.

At that event, before dinner, the host mention each consultants name, and their table then went cheering.
So as I listened to this, i thought a) while energetic, those guys and gals sound weak!, and b) my boss deserves a big shout out

So, when my tables turn came, I raised my arms, and shouted YEAHHHH!!!

The room fell silent, then everyone laughed!

I had to leave and the next morning I showed up at work and I told the host, I hope that wasn't inappropriate lol. And he told me, 'oh you are thinking about that? No man, that was funny, its all good.

So, the lesson here is that its your life. You are living it once, you are bound to make mistakes, the mistakes really don't hurt that bad, life is about having fun, about being you, about finding more friends that make you feel happy, and in the end, there is so much that you want.

Don't let an anthill of worry stop a lifetime of joy and fun.

And by the way, who do you think everyone will remember from that night?

Cheers and Bless you!
Phil
On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.
11th-Nov-2009 10:24 am - it is time for stormy weather
This is both the song currently stuck in my head and a prayer of sorts. This warm weather stuff is baloney. It is cloudy today, so I hope there will be some soon!

I've been listening to a lot of Pixies lately, Nik and I listened to them a bunch coming back from Tucson. I love that he loves them! They're not always that accessible, but once again my amazing kid has awesome taste... not that I'm biased, or anything. ;)

I just wish they were coming here on their current tour. I couldn't even begin to afford to trek to LA to see them. Le sigh.

Because sometimes asking the right questions is the answer.
This is going to be a long read for you, dear readeret, you have been warned, enjoy!

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I seem to gravitate between being a kid and between being wise. probably 26. Ha!

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?

Never trying is the worst failure that there is. Everyone accomplishes their goal over time. The ones who don't try never accomplish anything.

more below

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Habit, we are told to, and some things we have to do to get to those parts we enjoy. For your average pot smoker for instance, work a few hours, get some cash, buy the weed, enjoy, repeat. Life really isn't short, its quite long. People just say that it is too short. Oh no, i only have 80 years of life, we probably said that at 15, at 20, at 25, 35, 50, 70, and 92. Life isn't short, just use your time. Really think about what you want and do some of those things that pop up into your mind.

Like me, i just got my work in place. Next i have to/want to/ desperatly don't want to screw up/ my exam in 5 days.
5 days... ugh.
But if i finish it, i'll be free and won't have to worry about it again.
That's why i love time. It's like this endless march forward, you can't avoid it, and it pushes you past times that are good, but its greatest usefulness is in pushing you forward out of times that were bad, and in hindsight, 90% of the time weren't really that bad.

4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Currently yes, in the future no, somebody has to have fun, smile, and save the world right, that'll be me. But first, to my... i don't like the word work, because work is what you do, but if you do a good thing, feel good, and get paid really well, then is that work, it's not a career, that's just the line of work, ... oh how i wish for more words, or better images, because these just will not do.

5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
Fix the environment and have it stable. Or, scratch that. Keep the environment that has built up through millions of years intact so that it could bounce back. There is so much ecological richness that has built up over the millions of years that it seems a waste to poison it endlessly. I mean, people will continously kill each other, have babies, make grand speeches, and in the end, 100% of us die. But i'd like for the environment to be there for us, humans, and for other species forever, so that we can keep enjoying the ride.

6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
I'd do what i am doing now, fixing their finances. Because having things go wrong financially wrong is one of the biggest stresses in their life. The other work that i would do is healing the cracks in people. I think everyone has something they cling to, can't change etc, and perhaps fixing that is wrong, because everything is an experience, and maybe we keep being reborn here for new ones, so fixing something that i think is wrong, is taking something away from a person that would want it.

7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Currently doing what i asked for. I asked for where i am now - work wise. I'm going to ask for more, redefine what i want, over and over again. That's life. Therefore i am definatly not settling!

8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Good question, probably condense everything i wanted to do throughout my life into half the time. I'd go out more, start looking for a girlfriend today. Just have fun.
That is a deep question.... i'll have to reanswer it in the future.

9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
I think our emotions really play a huge part in the way our life goes, and how we take life in. I read something that completely changed the way i looked at the world. I tried a theory, if you choose happiness, your life will become happier. Not because you are happy, but because your energy reflects back into your world and will bring small changes that add up to a very different experience. Choose your emotions, and your focus wisely. You'll be stuck with it until you choose to change it.

10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Don't know. Why would i be worried in general. I want to do things right. Doing the right things isn't as much of a concern.

11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?

I'd defend my friend. If i respect and admire them, but they aren't my friends, then i would tell them that i think she is a good person and she is my friend. And that these people who i admire so much aren't so admirable in person. If they couldn't resolve their shameful attitude, i'd leave.

12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
The only wisdom i could ever offer you, is be ready to take life in and to make choices, and know that you are never going to run out of them, but that you always can make a new choice.

13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Damn straight!

14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
That's humanity in a nutshell for me.

15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
Read faster. Type more, just think in wider lines of thought.
I don't know lol. I changed my laugh 5 times. I currently like the one i have. Is that odd?

16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
They aren't supposed to. Everyone has their own thing. That's okay.

17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?
I am not studying for this exam. I don't know what's holding me back.

Its weird watching my habits here. They are exactly the same as at home... don't want to talk about it lol.

18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Just want to completely let go of my past. Few nuggets still pop up here and there. Generally i'm okay.,

19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
I wouldn't. I like this country.

20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
I don't lol.

21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
That's a tough one. Its kindof a choice i have to make now. I think joyful simpleton. Being worried and knowing what will happen, won't really save you or change anything. While being joyful, enjoying life even if something is going to happen was atleast a life worth living. I'd rather be a joyful genius simpleton, and cut out the worried part.

22. Why are you, you?
If we are looking at, why am I here, looking out through my eyes, conscious, i don't know. What i believe is that we are a soul, reincarnated over and over, experiencing new things. Or else this is a one ride wonder and i'll end after. I'm me because of the quirks i choose to indulge, choices i make, and things i desire. Everything else is just reality that i choose to take in.

23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
Generally yes.

24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
Both are bad.

25. What are you most grateful for?
Loving mom.

26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
Lose all of my old memories.
27. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Sure, its your truth, whatever you believe to be true is true to you.

28. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
Brother died, i visualized that for 2-3 weeks before it happened. That's about as bad as its been so far.

29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
Yeah. Yeah.

30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
My happiest memory was falling in love, and having one amazing day, and being in an aura of pure wonder.

31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
When I was in love, kristi.

32. If not now, then when?
Then now, because otherwise, always tommorow, and tommorow is today yesterday, nothing changes, choice is always about now now now.

33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
GOOD POINT!

34. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?

Not really. That is like the shortest and most chickeny conversation ever.

35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
Stupidity? I think its a marriage between stories of love, but the lessons they take from them is really about war, hate, and resentment. I think it isn't religion, but the people that reflect and choose it that makes them cause wars.

36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
Sure. People make those assumptions all the time.

37. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
No! I'd keep working if i loved what i was doing.

38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
I would rather do more work that i actually enjoyed doing.

39. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Yes, i always feel a bit dissappointed when i don't do as much or nearly enough as i know i can do.

40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
Taking this job, that's it.

41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
Family, and a prostitute.

42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No. I am attractive enough, and who cares about being famous.

43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Heartbeat vs enjoying your life.

44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
Most people get stopped by really little things, tiny pressures, its so sad.

45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Because we all imagine someone will judge us. Why that's important no one knows.

46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
Hmmmmmm, i suppose i would first need to know if i actually liked doing what i thought i wouldn't care if anyone judged me about it. (i am speaking about something specific here). Apart from that, i think it would remove a lot of defensive mechanisms. People would just be themselves, and find people like them, maybe that's the most important thing.

47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?

When i tried to fall asleep and it failed for me as a technique to fall asleep.

48. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
I love my mom. One action failed to express love, others generally do. Actions do speak louder than words, and we should take more loving actions i agree.

49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?

No, i won't have the worries that i have today. They will be irrelevant.

50. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
I think i have a problem with studying for the exam, because I feel that i have to. For various reasons. But i want to write the exam, and with the job i am doing, it's advantageous for me to have the exam done.

Anyway, a long list of thoughtful things.

Well, if you read this far, congrats. You have staying power!

8th-Nov-2009 07:01 pm - Hi there!
I have a job! Wheeeeeeee!!!!

I am a financial planner for ____company irrelevant, since most of you ppl live in the states!
But yeah, i'm loving it. Learning about how to fix other people's financial future, shake here, invest there, done!

Ofcourse it is more complicated then that, and i do take it more seriously than that.
But i just wanted to say, UNIVERSE!!! THANK YOU!
Honestly, i asked for a job, i asked for the place to be in this specific area, I asked to have fun, to meet people, and the job lined up completely with every single string of random courses i have taken.
Who's god, you GOD!

So, apart from the i do not believe there are coincidences nor events, just generally what you ask for and project, WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I have met so many awesome people at work. And funny enough, i am the funny, sweet, and energetic grin guy.
Then again, i was born of pure positivity (right,. right, nudge nudge erin!) and i continue to strive for pure joy.

Ask for what you want, and go after it!
Love you guys and gals!
